All natural hearths or mantels will vary as the stone is a natural quarried stone material. A requested thickness of 3" may result in a piece of stone can vary between 2½" - 3½", the thicker the piece the more the variance a 6” thickness would vary 5-7”. One end may be thinner or thicker than the other, the surface color and texture will vary. Consecutive pieces will not match each other there will be variance. The lead time may be longer as we need to locate these pieces in the quarry for fabrication into your custom piece, plan on 4-8 weeks+.
The only difference between a Sandy Creek and Highland Brown piece is the front edge. They start out as the same stone. In Sandy Creek the pieces are split or hand rock-faced, in Highland Brown the front face is natural, the ends and back are sawn or split.
